Calm before the storm #SOLC17

This morning it was really chilly, but beautifully sunny.

I haven't walked much since last summer for a list of reasons:  unmotivated, hurt feet, walking buddy moved, crummy weather.

I decided to lace up my shoes and just go.  I turned right instead of left.  Past the street I would usually turn on.  Then I trodded up the hill.

The sun was shining, but it's warmth didn't do much against the fierce, cold wind.  I was glad for my mittens, but I was missing my scarf and hat.  The wind kept pushing my hood farther back on my head.

I was the solo walker out this morning.  Few neighbors drove by in their cars.

I walked to clear my head, listen to the birds and move my legs before I came inside to do homework and other computer work.

Tonight we expect a snowstorm.  I can't belive the lack of snow this season, but winter still has a tight grip.  We are in for 3-6" by Tuesday.

I enjoyed the blue, brilliant sky.  The calm before the storm.

  1. I love reading about you trodding up the hill. Such a specific, great verb. I love going for cold-weather walks; if the sun is shining, it's a special kind of beautiful.

  2. Today does feel like the calm before the storm ... only time with tell. Maybe the forecasters are being overly generous! I'm glad you got out and about today. It's good for your mind, body, and soul. We should plan for some walks this summer!

    1. I also just realized that you are adding/changing a line in our SOL header. I noticed what you wrote today and wondered if you changed it every day and sure enough looking back, you do! Love it!

  3. I could picture everything you described--beautiful and so nice to read. I felt like I was on a walk with you! I hope that your snowstorm is a pretty one and not a dangerous one, and that spring follows on its heels! :)

  4. I also was able to picture everything in your walk....Lovely. We had sunshine here in Ohio today, and I was outside playing with my grandkids. It was really cold, but the sunshine was wonderful! ~JudyK

  5. Loved the last two sentences in your post and the mention of sunshine. Sorry you lost a walking buddy. Glad you got out to enjoy the sunshine (not much of that in the NW), before your storm arrives.

  6. Feeling the same here, "the calm before the storm" as we are expecting a foot or more. There's kind of a beautiful surrender in it. Hope you enjoy whatever comes your way.

  8. Fresh air and sunshine - love to walk in it, but the cold, brrrr. Hope you don't get too much snow. Ours came on Sat. 2 inches, melted yesterday and a light dusting this morning.
