Sometimes SOLC #11

Sometimes I wish I was an introvert.
Someone who would think first, talk later.
Someone who would have filters.
Someone who could wait her turn to talk
And not be so quick to respond
And then ask for forgiveness.

Sometimes it's hard to be who you are
And not worried about
What everyone else is thinking
And how they might want you to be different
Quieter, more thoughtful
More in tune with the world around you
And just less loud.

Sometimes it's hard to be
Who you are
Because you are wired that way
And no amount of training
Or coaching
Or advice
Will change you.

Sometimes you have to decide
That you are okay
Just the way you are.

  1. Oh, I loved your poem. I wrote a Haiku today because I'm too tired to write much of anything. I'm an introvert and I can relate to everything you said. I can't count the number of times I wish I had a filter so I'm not sure being an introvert helps there much. ;)

  3. I love the repetition of "sometimes" and the way that you coach yourself in this poem from wishing you were something and someone different to accepting yourself for who you are. What a beautiful message!

  4. Amen Chris! Of course you should be who you are! If you change you wouldn't be you!! Great guess by the way but not what you are thinking :-)))

  5. Your Sometimes poem is a powerful message to us all. We all have to be ourselves. That is the beauty of the world.

  6. I second all that was already said. You are you and that's the beauty in it. This is a beautiful message for all our kids too. "You are okay just the way you are." :) Hugs to you!

  7. Wonderful poem and yes, you are okay just the way you are. Here's the quote I shared with Michelle yesterday. "God has made us just as he wants us to be. We have something to offer that no one else can bring...and the world is waiting."
