Yes, we can? SOLC #5

We're starting to take the state test today.
I just can't bring myself to say, "Hip, hip, hooray!"
I worry that my students who look
To me for help in finding a book
Will find themselves drowning in a sea of text
And think they're under some terrible hex.

So...

I think I'll start the day with a big smile and cheer,
Telling them, "Good to see you!  I'm so glad that you're here!
You've worked hard to learn, to think and you've grown
As readers, so show us all the knowledge you know!"

Wishing all teachers a calm, positive state testing season!
When your students do well, check the mirror...
you're one of the reasons!

  2. The rhymes of your poem made me forget the ickiness of testing for a bit. You can't help but smile when rhyming is at work.

  3. What fun! After writing my dreary, gloomy hatred post about test prep, I was happy to see your poem!

  4. I'm sure your poem inspires your students to do their best and not worry about the rest. (I wasn't trying to rhyme, it just came out that way.) Enjoyed this poem. I'm so glad I teach first grade. Thanks for sharing your slice.

  5. Seems like lots of us are starting tests this week. We start tomorrow. I'm dreading it, but I will definitely think of your poem as I say hello to my students in the morning.
